Our brief was to change the layout of this house to create a flowing open plan space, expose original features and to repair some damaged structural timber.
After a design consultation detailing a number of possible solutions a plan was agreed. Major works include a new insulated floor to the oldest part of the house (while retaining as many original joists as possible), moving and installing a new set of stairs to arrive more centrally, moving and installing a new solid wood kitchen, installation of conservation French doors, vaulting all ceilings to expose original roof trusses, two new bathrooms and a utility area.
Our clients wanted to use genuine and eco-friendly materials wherever possible and hence we used a lot of solid wood and reclaimed products including sheep wool insulation.
A particular feature is the new solid wood splayed staircase with curved Georgian handrail that we fabricated in our workshop.
